How to cook ripe plantains

If you don´t know how to cook a ripe plantain, here is an idea that can help you out, these are called "plátano tentación" and means temptation plantains in English, it´s a Central America recipe and is used as a side dish. It has great flavors and they are use as a complement to balance meals.

Prep: 5 minutes Cook: 22 minutes.

You will also need: Sauce pan with lid


2 ripe plantains

3/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 stick of butter

1 Tbsp. of cinnamon

10 oz maraschino cherries (with syrup)

1 cup of cola drink (you can use orange juice).

How it´s done:

  1. Heat up the pan to a medium high heat

  2. Melt the butter in the pan

  3. Add the previously cut plantain pieces

  4. Fry them for 1 minute in the butter and turn the around once they are golden brown.

  5. Add the sugar and the cinnamon.

  6. Then stir them up and add the maraschino cherries, followed by the cola drink.

  7. Cook for 8 minutes, then cover them and cook for 12 more minutes.

  8. Remove the lid and give a flip to the plantains and cook for 4 more minutes uncovered.

  9. You can cook for more time if you wish that that sauce becomes thicker.
